kathi(kathiyawadi) horse war training

It is intresting that how kathiyawadi horse were trained by kathi kshatriya for the war. kathiyawadi horse were decorated with different equipments. this horse equipment have different name in local language. there is no particular translation of this equipment in english so i will try to explain as possible 

1. kathi kshatriya used to keep a small rope  like object near the ear of the horse in local language they call it "sankhvagh".this was used rarely. when enemy is running in front with his horse and kathi warrior are to catch this enemy than horseman would hug neck of the horse and hold the "sankhvagh". by doing this horse would catch up its maximum speed  like fire of bullet from gun and in few second enemy will be caught.
2. kathi kshatriya used to give horse training to rear on two leg and to walk till some distance. by signaling with the rein of horse, horse would stand on two leg and walk. this training was useful in india very much, because indian used elephants in war, by this training horse would stand on two leg and horse kept front two legs on the head of elephant so horseman would get maximum height to attack on person riding elephant. there are many example of this training being usefull in the history of kathiyawad.
3. when enemy is coming behind to  catch kathi warrior with his horse , kathi warrior would signal the horse with rein and horse would stop at the spot and would stand on two leg and taking one leg up on which horse is standing will move backward, and in few second enemy would be in front.
4. kathi warrior trained their horse to jump like monkey on four legs. by the signal of kathi man horse would jump like monkey on four legs. this is called "languri" in local language
5. by pulling the rein and releasing the rein the horse would stand on two leg and would jump like bird want to fly. this is called "udan" in local language.
6. when enemy throw spear or sword, kathi would hit the front leg of horse with his leg, by doing this signal horse would sit down and enemy will miss the target
7. when enemy is coming behind kathi warrior with horse, kathi warrior would kick his horse softly with leg on horse stomach, by signaling like this horse would kick the enemy coming behind.

History of kathi(kathiyawadi) horses;-

origin of kathiyawadi horse is unkown, there are many theories about origin of kathiyawadi horse. but there are lack of evidence among all the theories. some believes that kathiyawadi horse are descend from arab stallion and local mares. but theory that it cross between kathiyawadi local mare and arab stallion is not acceptable as it can refuted logically and scientifically though some of the points the two breed are matching it does not necessarily mean that it is cross between the two.one of the distinctive features of kathiyawadi horse is its ear,which curve inward to touch and sometimes overlap at the tips. The Kathiawari has the most extremely curved ears of any breed of horse.if arab stallions crossed the mare, this horses would have lost it distinct ears. black color is not found in the kathiyawadi horse and kathiyawadi horse are commanly dun in colour, on the other side dun colour  is not found in arab. if kathiyawadi horses were descends of arab then kathiyawadi would have balck colour and would not be dun commanly. what ever their origin it was developed by kathi kshatriya. Kathi kshatriya are said to preserved pure and refined kathiyawari breed like rathore ruler’s have preserved Marwari horses.there are 36 different strains of kathi horse.kathi kshatriya were so selective and precise in breeding and preserving these different strains & breeds that even Arab, which is now considered to be purest & oldest breed of the world, even they have only 12 sub breeds or families of the arab.there are no breeders of the horse in the world who had bred & developed so many different strains & families from particularly just one blood.this goes to show that the horse breeding knowledge, technique and passion was so prominent and horse mastership and horsemanship was very high standard in kathi kshatriya.kathiyawadi are world best war horse.sorry for the poor english

There are 350 breeds of ponies and horses in the world today. among this breeds many are used in farming, war, riding etc. India has indigenous breeds of ponies/horses include Kathiyawadi, Marwadi, spiti, zanskari and spiti. Among this kathiyawadi and Marwadi are fully developed horse. both the breed has been used in war from early time. kathiyawadi horses were mainly developed by kathi kshatriya(a warrior clan) of  Kathiyawad region and Marwadi horses were mainly developed by the Rathore kshatriya of Marwad. kathi kshatriya and kathiyawadi horses are inseparable from each other. we challenge the 350 breeds of the world that no breed are so loyal, brave, intelligent than kathiyawadi horse. we challenge among the 350 horse breeds of world that no breed can stand in war like kathiyawadi horses. no breed of world can do any sacrifice  as kathiyawadi horses have done.

Old name of kathiyawadi horse was kathi horse. today kathiyawadi horses are on verge of extinction. kathiyawadi horses derive its name from the region called kathiyawad. this region in situated in gujarat state of india. kathiyawad region derives its name from the  brave  kathi people, a warrior clan  who developed this horses to use in war. by reading old documents and books we came to know that old name of this breed was kathi horse.By efforts of people of marwad, marwadi horse are being popular but situatation of kathi horses are worse. so this blog is dedicated to kathi horse
